As she strolled in the Californian sunshine last week with 61-year-old Niall, the Londonderry-born singer appeared to have the weight of the world on her shoulders.
While her Girls Aloud bandmate, X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, has seen her career surge – both her single and album are in the Top 10 – 25-year-old Miss Coyle suffered a humiliating chart defeat.
Her new album, Insatiable, sold only 5,000 copies in its first week and failed to make the Top 40.
A source in Los Angeles said last night: ‘Nadine is going through a tough time. She went to LA thinking that she would launch her Hollywood career and become the breakout star of Girls Aloud but her career is going nowhere.’

The singer – who relocated to LA three years ago and is engaged to former American football player Jason Bell, 32 – has denied a feud with Miss Cole, 27.
But she remarked recently: ‘I know I could never take on Cheryl. She has all the power of The X Factor and Simon Cowell behind her.
