Plush: Tiger Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren has paid $12.2million for a new Florida mansion just 10 miles from where her former husband has a new bachelor pad

Tiger Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren has starting spending her divorce settlement, splashing $12.2m on new home in Florida.

Although it is a fraction of the cost of Woods' new $60million bachelor pad, Elin will actually have more floor space in her mansion.

The golfer's house sits on 12 acres of land but his actual home is only about half the size of Elin's, which has over 17,000sq ft of space.

Spacious: The stunning beachfront two-storey mansion boasts eight bathrooms and a 4,700 sq ft basement

Seven months after the couple finalised their divorce Elin, who had been house-hunting since autumn, settled on the stunning beach-front mansion in an exclusive part of North Palm Beach.

It is located just 10 miles south of Woods' soon to be completed new bachelor pad in Jupiter Island, with the former couple having agreed to live nearby for the sake of their children.

The two-storey home, built originally in 1932, boasts eight bathrooms and a 4,700 sq ft basement, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Making it work: The couple decided to live close to each other for the sake of their two children Sam, three, and two-year-old Charlie

Private: The house was originally built in 1932 and is nestled in an exclusive enclave of one of Florida's most desirable neighbourhoods

Although the couple have joint custody of their children, Sam, three, and Charlie, two, are thought to live with Elin.

In an interview this week, Woods spoke of the difficulty of raising the children together following the divorce.

'It's work,' Woods said. 'There's no doubt. It's tough but enjoyable.'

'That's the work that I love. I just love being with them and seeing what they're doing, what they're capable of doing, the joys, the shifts of interest.

Separate lives: Tiger and Elin divorced seven months ago after a very public breakup amid infidelity claims from numerous women

Happier times: The couple have remained on good terms for the sake of their two young children

'That's what's just fun. We have a great time together and that's what's important.'

'Family's first,' he added. 'That's what it was when I was growing up. My mom and dad were always there, they were always present for me and that's how I am with my kids now.'

He recently blogged that he is 'excited' about moving into his new place 'pretty soon'.

Bachelor pad: Tiger is preparing to move into his new $60million Florida mansion which has a running track and a four-hole golf course

According to reports, Nordegren bought the house through one of the lawyers who worked on her divorce from Woods last summer, Virginia attorney Dennis Belcher, and a trust called Northern Lights Trust.

Nordegren also holds a $45 million-mortgage on Woods' house until he makes good on his part in the divorce settlement, which is rumoured to be in the $100-million range.

The mother-of-two is currently enrolled as a part-time student at Rollins College in Florida where she is studying psychology.
